Since the news of the death of George Floyd, a 46-year-old African-American resident of Minnesota hit the global wave, a lot has happened across the globe unlike before. There have been several protests in the past based on racial segregation but this one in particulars seems to have touched numerous people’s lives. This is evident in the way the protests spread across the globe in different major cities of North America, Europe, and Africa within a short period of time. All people of different races were advocating for the end of brutality based on one’s race, especially to the black fraternity.

The black lives matter protests have resulted in scrutiny of different unfair cultures, for instance, the protesters called for the removal of all statues that are connected to slavery, imperialism, and oppression in different major cities. Many were seen being removed with some others in contention. King Leopard II’s statue was removed from Brussels on the basis that he killed very many people in the Democratic Republic of  Congo in the 19th Century according to Richard Allen Greene, CNN, Thu June 11, 2020.

In the labour market, different companies are contemplating changing logos and packaging materials that were dubbed racist as a result of BLM activists and other companies are considering inclusion of more blacks in top roles. For instance, Serena Williams’ husband and Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian asked for a black replacement on the board of directors following his resignation two years back and in his tweets, he said: “I’m saying this as a father who needs to be able to answer his black daughter when she asks: ‘What did you do?” https://twitter.com/alexisohanian/status/1268944657679036422?s=20. This was a huge gesture that moved many people and there’s hope for better as Reddit accepted to honour his request.

Besides, the protests are very contagious and are continuing to create an impact in different countries, for example, a petition was introduced before the speaker of the parliament of Uganda Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga on Fri June, 27 calling for the removal of symbols, street names, colonial relics and the renaming of streets in Kampala which is the capital city of Uganda and other landmarks of Uganda as she tweeted on her official page.https://twitter.com/RebeccaKadagaUG/status/1276461077526573057?s=20  Below is a map showing current landmarks and street names in Uganda.

Question: How far will black lives matter protests stretch and should blacks always first seek attention in order for their pleas to be listened to?
